As a Director, Learning Experiences, Cole oversees and designs Springpoint’s Transformative Learning Experience units and supports their implementation by working with teachers, coaches, and principals.
Cole has honed his expertise in science education over 15+ years of teaching, curriculum development, and research. He cut his teeth as a Teach for America corps member in Chicago, IL, teaching high school biology. Later, he worked at a charter high school in Newark, NJ that sent over 95% of graduating seniors to four-year colleges. He then leveraged that expertise to join a University of California–Berkeley-based design team, developing science units for the green-rated Amplify Science Curriculum. Cole later transitioned into teacher education, rebuilding (and teaching) graduate-level methods courses at the Relay Graduate School of Education to emphasize new standards and disciplinary literacy. He completed his doctoral thesis on the challenges of science teacher preparation at programs across North America, publishing his work in both Q1 research journals like Science and Education and widely-read practitioner journals like The Science Teacher.
Cole holds a Bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College in Biology and Philosophy, a Master’s of Arts in Teaching from National-Louis University, and a Ph.D. in Science Education from Teachers’ College–Columbia University.
