Christy Kingham

Director, Leadership & School Design

As Director, Leadership & School Design, Christy works closely with Springpoint’s partners to support the design and implementation of new, student-centered school models. Her deep experience in the classroom, along with her instructional coaching work and competency-based system design guides her work with partners.

Prior to joining Springpoint, Christy worked with The Young Women’s’ Leadership School in Astoria, Queens, for eight years as an Instructional Coach and Curriculum Developer in addition to teaching English. Joining the school in its fifth year, Christy collaborated her fellow practitioners to create robust student supports, design and implement a nationally acclaimed, 21st-century competency system, and implement PBL “learning intensives” in which regular courses pause and students engage in passion projects for two full weeks. At TYWLS of Astoria, an average of 98% of students graduate and move on to college each year. Christy launched her career at Fox Lane Middle School in Bedford, New York, where she taught English for seven years.

She graduated from Georgetown with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, Columbia University Teachers’ College with a Master of Arts in the Teaching of English, and Hunter College with a Masters in Educational Leadership. Since the summer of 2011, Christy was a teacher-leader with the New York City Writing Project and has been an adjunct professor with Drexel University’s Graduate School of Education for the past ten years.
