Berkshire Hills Regional School District, Great Barrington, MA

Beth is a district-wide Instructional Coach for the Berkshire Hills Regional School District (PK-12) in Great Barrington, Massachusetts where she has worked as a biology teacher, instructional lead, department coordinator, and mentor since 2014. Prior to that, she worked as a Biology and Earth Science teacher in the South Bronx in New York City while getting her Master’s Degree in Teaching at Fordham University. In 2007 Beth graduated with a BS in Biological and Geological sciences from Union College where her studies in science took her to Australia, New Zealand and the Bahamas.

In her classroom, Beth is passionate about helping all students find their voices in communicating their curiosity about the natural world, providing them with tools to understand what is all around them.  Her students have used boats and nets to conduct trash surveys in the Bronx River, set up trail cameras in the forests of Berkshire County to survey and assess potential tick hosts and lyme disease risk and tested water quality in local watersheds.  She enjoys creating learning experiences that inspire all students to wonder and that promote deep connections in learning.

In her new role as instructional coach, Beth is very much back in the learner’s seat, as she explores school and the classroom experience through the eyes of children ages four through twenty. As she continues to learn and grow outside of her high school biology classroom, Beth works with teachers throughout the district to grow their own pedagogical practice, to be courageous learners and to develop and implement their own lofty goals for both themselves and their students. For Beth, any day spent working with teachers and students, in the classroom, learning from and with her community, is a good day.

When outside of her classroom, Beth can be found walking the woods and fields of Berkshire County, collecting rocks, flowers and acorns, and calling turkeys and owls, with her five year old son, husband and dog. She and her family are also excited to be expanding their family with the addition of a baby girl in the Winter of 2024!
